How to use the overtime pay calculator
The formula
Weekly pay = (rate × regular hours) + (rate × 1.5 × 1.5× hours) + (rate × 2 × 2× hours). Monthly = weekly × 52 ÷ 12; annual = weekly × 52.
How overtime usually works
Many employers pay hours beyond the standard week at 1.5× the hourly rate ("time and a half"), and hours on rest days or holidays at 2×. The exact rules depend on your contract and local labour law — in the US, the FLSA sets overtime rules for many roles, while in the UK overtime premiums are mostly contractual. Split your hours between the two boxes to match your arrangement.
Gross pay
Results are gross, before income tax and other deductions, which vary by person and place.
Example
$20/hour, 40 regular hours + 5 hours at 1.5×: $800 + $150 = $950 per week ($4,117/month, $49,400/year).
Frequently asked questions
How is time and a half calculated?
Multiply the hourly rate by 1.5. At $20/hour, each 1.5× overtime hour pays $30.
How do I get monthly pay from weekly pay?
Multiply the weekly figure by 52 and divide by 12. This tool does that for you.
Is overtime taxed differently?
Overtime is normally taxed as ordinary income in both the UK and US, though some jurisdictions have introduced specific deductions. Check current local rules or ask your payroll team.
My overtime rate is 1.25×. Can I use this?
Not exactly — this tool covers the two most common multipliers, 1.5× and 2×. For other multipliers, a quick workaround is to enter those hours in the 1.5× box and scale the result.
